28 lakh diyas: Ayodhya set to remake a world record that no one is trying to break

Ayodhya, the city witness to probably the longest and most critical land dispute in the country, is not set to break its own record of lighting the most diyas in a single night. While those who find themselves associated with the record-breaking ceremony are full of jolly enthusiasm, others are struggling to find the meaning in the whole exercise.

“We will light 28 lakh diyas in a single night. It will be a record,” said Mr Shyaam Singh Yadav, who is joining the celebrations in his cousin’s city during the grand festivities.

Yadav said, “They ask us what is the point of lighting so many diyas, I tell them there is no point in eating ice cream too. But you guys do it all the time. Even I do it all the time. There is no point of doing anything at all so the best thing to do is to make a record no one can break.”
