Indian Railways scraps Vande Bharat tender, chooses SpaceX starship to match ‘double engine’ development speed

1 min read

Indian Railways has cancelled its Rs 30,000-crore tender for 100 Vande Bharat trains, opting instead to collaborate with SpaceX on deploying Starship rockets for passenger travel. The move comes in an attempt to match the development of the ‘double engine sarkaar’.

These rockets, known for their lightning speed, are expected to cut travel time on routes like Delhi to Patna to just five minutes. The launchers for the Starship rockets are set to be built by 2035. Until then, the first launch vehicle will be displayed at the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya in Delhi to showcase India’s progress.

The decision has surprised industry leaders, as some believe that the development in India cannot be outpaced.
